Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress Overview

Nectar is one of the most popular bed-in-a-box mattress brands. For years, they have offered all-foam mattress models that are both comfortable and a great value. Now, they have gotten into the hybrid game with three models – the Nectar Classic Hybrid, the Nectar Premier Hybrid, and Nectar Premier Copper Hybrid.

The Nectar Classic Hybrid adds coils to the brand’s flagship model. This adds some great new qualities to an already impressive mattress.

Nectar Classic Hybrid Firmness and Feel

Let’s start off by taking a look at the Nectar Hybrid’s firmness and feel. Firmness and feel are important to consider whenever you are shopping for a new mattress. Depending on how firm or soft a mattress is, it may or may not work for you.

How Firm Is The Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress?

On a firmness scale of 1-10, the Nectar Classic Hybrid scores around a 6.5/10, the industry standard for medium-firm. The top two layers of foam are very soft, but when you press further into the mattress, you can feel the firmness of the support layers. Combined, these layers give the Nectar Classic Hybrid a good balance of comfort and support.

Sleeping On The Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress

When I slept on my back on the Nectar Classic Hybrid mattress, I felt the contouring of the memory foam and the support of the coils. My hips sank in just the right amount, and the memory foam took the shape of my body. I even noticed the memory foam pressing up into my lumbar area. All in all, the Nectar Hybrid was a great mattress for back sleeping.

A man sleeps on his back on the Nectar Classic Hybrid.

Side sleeping, the Nectar Classic Hybrid was not a bad match for me. Soft memory foam usually does a great job of relieving tension on key pressure points, and I definitely experienced this on the Nectar. I am a larger person (6’7” and 270 lb), so I may need a thicker comfort layer, but many side sleepers should get the pressure relief they require on this mattress.

Stomach sleeping, the Nectar Classic Hybrid was too soft for me. Stomach sleepers are better off with firm mattresses that will support their hips. On the Nectar, I could feel my hips sinking down into the mattress, taking my spine out of alignment. You always want to find a mattress that will keep your spine neutrally aligned when you are sleeping in your favorite position. This might be an issue for stomach sleepers on the Nectar Classic Hybrid.

What Does The Nectar Classic Hybrid Feel Like?

On top, the Nectar Classic Hybrid exhibits that classic memory foam feel. When I pushed my hand in and pulled it away, the memory foam took a few seconds to reform. At the same time, when I was lying down on the Nectar Hybrid, I could feel the support and bounce of the coils down in the support layer.

The coils will make it easier to move around, but the memory foam might still make some people feel stuck at night. This is something to think about if you have mobility issues.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lb – 230 lb

Back sleepers in this weight range are going to love the Nectar Classic Hybrid mattress. It has that perfect balance of comfort and support that back sleepers should be looking for. You’ll sink into the top memory foam layer while the coils hold you up.

Average weight side sleepers should also enjoy the Nectar Classic Hybrid. Lying down, you’ll only feel the comfort and pressure relief of the memory foam. You should have no problem bottoming out, which occurs when you press too far into a mattress and into the firmer support layers.

Average weight stomach sleepers who weigh closer to 130 lb could get the support they require on the Nectar Classic Hybrid. However, if you weigh much more than this, you should find a firmer bed that can support your hips and center mass.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lb

Heavyweight back sleepers who weigh under 275 lb should find the Nectar Classic Hybrid to be a good match. However, if you weigh much more than this, the Nectar Hybrid might not provide the support you really need. You should take a look at one of our best mattresses for heavy people.

If you are a side sleeper in this weight range, the Nectar Classic Hybrid probably won’t give you the best pressure relief. You could press down into the mattress and bottom out. In addition, the coils might not be able to handle your weight, and you could see some premature sagging in the mattress.

Heavyweight stomach sleepers will need a firmer, more supportive mattress. If this applies to you, consider one of our mattresses for stomach sleepers or our best mattresses for heavy people.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lb

The Nectar Classic Hybrid should work well for lightweight people who sleep in any position. The mattress should offer the right amount of support for stomach sleeping and the perfect comfort, great for side sleeping.

Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress Construction

Let’s unzip the Nectar Classic Hybrid mattress and see what is going on inside. I’ll discuss each layer and how it affects the performance of the mattress.

Cover

The Nectar Classic Hybrid mattress boasts a quilted cooling cover. It is cool to the touch and is both soft and breathable. It is designed to promote airflow through the mattress, helping to keep you cool at night.

Comfort Layers

The top layer in the Nectar Classic Hybrid contains soft, gel-infused memory foam. This material is there to relieve pressure and contour the curves of your body. The gel infusion is there to help dissipate heat and keep you cool.

Below the memory foam, there is a Dynamic Response layer. This layer features responsive polyfoam that is designed to prevent you from bottoming out or getting stuck in the mattress.

Support Layers

The Nectar Hybrid’s main support layer contains individually-wrapped coils. These are bouncy, supportive, and allow for a good amount of airflow.

The coils rest on a thin layer of base foam which is there to keep the coils from digging into your frame of foundation.

Mattress Height

The Nectar Classic Hybrid is 12” tall.

Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress Performance

I ran this Nectar mattress through a number of tests. I tested it for cooling, motion transfer, and other criteria. Let’s see how it did!

Sleeping Hot or Cold

As the name suggests, the Nectar Classic Hybrid is a hybrid mattress. Hybrid mattresses are often a good pick for hot sleepers, and the Nectar is no exception. Its coils promote a great deal of airflow through the bottom part of the mattress, preventing it from trapping heat.

On top, the breathable cover and gel-infused memory foam also help dissipate heat and keep the top layers nice and cool. You shouldn’t be sleeping too hot on the Nectar Classic Hybrid.

Motion Transfer

Motion transfer is something that all couples want to think about when shopping for a new mattress. Motion transfer occurs when your partner moves around on their side of the mattress and this movement disturbs you on your side.

Memory foam mattresses are best at handling motion transfer because the slow-moving foam absorbs the motion and isolates it to each side of the mattress. So, it was no surprise that the Nectar Classic Hybrid cut down on motion transfer. The mattress isolated motion, so you and your partner shouldn’t be disturbing one another when you move around. For more options, take a look at our best mattresses for couples.

Edge Support

Edge support is also very important for couples. A mattress with good edge support allows both partners to sleep toward the edge and get the most room possible.

While the Nectar’s top layers are quite soft, the coils make up for this with great support. Sitting and lying down near the edge, I did not feel like I would fall or roll off.

Durability

When you’re buying a new mattress, you want to make sure it is going to last. Is your new mattress durable or will it break down in just a few years?

With its combination of high-quality foams and high-grade coils, the Nectar Classic Hybrid is a durable pick. Based on its construction and materials, it should last for between 7 and 10 years.

Off-gassing

Off-gassing occurs when you unbox your new mattress and it emits a chemical smell. This is normal with bed-in-a-box mattresses, and the smell usually dissipates within 48 hours.

When I unboxed the Nectar Classic Hybrid, I noticed that familiar chemical smell. However, I left the mattress in a well-ventilated room, and the smell was gone in just a few days.

Noise

Some mattresses make noise, especially after you sleep on them for a few years. The Nectar Classic Hybrid I reviewed was brand new, so I did not hear any squeaks or creaks when I moved around and changed positions.

This may start to happen after you have the mattress for a number of years, but it is not an issue at the outset.

Sex

Besides motion transfer and edge support, couples also want to think about whether or not their mattress is good for sex.

Bouncier mattresses are better for sex because they make it easy for partners to move around. While it features memory foam on top, it still isn’t too hard to move around on this mattress. Because of this, it could be a good mattress for sex.
