DreamCloud Mattress Review Overview

The DreamCloud mattress is a cheap mattress that features high-quality materials such as a cashmere-blend cover, gel-infused memory foam, and individually-wrapped coils. This medium-firm hybrid mattress offers a nice balance of comfort, support, and bounce for sleepers.

DreamCloud now offers three mattresses: the DreamCloud Premier Rest, the DreamCloud Premier, and the original DreamCloud, which we’re talking about here. The DreamCloud Premier is higher-end than the original DreamCloud, but the DreamCloud Premier Rest is their most luxurious model, which costs several hundred dollars more than the original.

We enjoyed our experience with the DreamCloud mattress, but we think it is going to be a better fit for certain types of sleepers:

Who is the DreamCloud Mattress Best for?

  • Back sleepers who require a good balance of comfort and support with their mattress
  • Hot sleepers who want to sleep cooler during the night
  • Fans of mattresses with a more bouncy, responsive feel that makes it easy to move around
  • Shoppers who are looking for a hybrid mattress for a value price

Who Might Not Like the DreamCloud Mattress?

  • Side sleepers who need a mattress to relieve pressure on their shoulders and hips
  • Larger sleepers who need a more supportive mattress that can handle the extra weight
  • Those who prefer a mattress with more of a slow-moving, memory foam feel

Where the DreamCloud Mattress Ranks

At Mattress Clarity, we rank mattresses based on hands-on testing in our sleep lab. Here’s where the DreamCloud has ranked on some of our 2023 roundups:

DreamCloud Mattress Review: Video Overview

To find out if the DreamCloud is truly as dreamy as it sounds, make sure to watch our in-depth video review. Our reviewer, Marten, tries the mattress out for himself and discusses exactly what it feels like to sleep on the DreamCloud mattress.

DreamCloud Mattress Firmness and Feel

When we are looking at a new mattress, the first thing we consider is how firm it is and what it feels like. Let’s break down how firm the DreamCloud is, what it feels like, and how it will work for average weight, heavyweight, and lightweight sleepers.

How Firm Is the DreamCloud Mattress?

In our experience, the DreamCloud mattress feels close to a 7.5/10, firmer-than-average. There is just a touch of plushness on top of the DreamCloud. Beneath that, the mattress is quite firm.

As we’ll discuss below, the DreamCloud mattress might feel firmer or softer depending on the sleeper’s body weight. Very lightweight sleepers might only feel the pillow top, so it could feel softer to them; larger sleepers could sink in and mostly feel the support layers, and it could feel firmer to them.

What is it like to Sleep on the DreamCloud Mattress?

Sleeping on the DreamCloud, we feel best when we are on our backs because it’s because the mattress provides us with a great balance of comfort and support. Our hips sink into the plush foam layers on top, but they don’t sink in extremely far. In addition, we are held up by the supportive coils on the bottom of the DreamCloud.

Side sleeping on the DreamCloud, we are feeling some significant pressure on our shoulders and hips because we press right through the top layer and drive into the firmer support layers. As we will point out below, lightweight sleepers could feel better pressure relief than we did on the DreamCloud mattress.

DreamCloud Mattress - Side Sleeping

At the same time, when we’re stomach sleeping, the DreamCloud isn’t offering us the proper amount of support under our hips. We bow in at a center mass, and we feel some strain in our lumbar area that could be an issue after a few more nights on the DreamCloud.

What Does the DreamCloud Mattress Feel Like?

While the DreamCloud mattress does have some soft foam quilted into its cover, there is not too much of it. There is also some foam beneath this, but we’re mostly feeling the coils when we lie on the mattress.

Because of this, the DreamCloud has more of a traditional innerspring mattress feel that’s responsive, making it easy to move around and change positions at night.

DreamCloud Firmness And Feel

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230 lbs

Back sleeping, average weight people should like how they feel on the DreamCloud. Their hips will sink into the plusher foams on top while they feel the support of the coils beneath. It’s one of the best mattresses for back sleepers.

Unless they’re beneath 200 lbs, average weight side sleepers might feel too much pressure when they are lying on the DreamCloud mattress. They could feel bunched up around the hips and shoulders, and this could cause pain and discomfort over time.

Stomach sleeping, those who weigh closer to 130 lbs might feel enough support under their hips and could stay in good neutral spinal alignment. However, those who are closer to 230 lbs might feel their hips start to sag into the mattress, and this can cause lower back pain over time. Make sure to check out our best mattresses for stomach sleepers.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lbs

Heavyweight sleepers who are closer to 230 lbs should get all the support they need on the DreamCloud mattress. If they are closer to 300 lbs or more, the mattress might not be able to support their weight. Side sleeping, heavyweight sleepers should feel too much pressure on their shoulders and hips to be comfortable and, stomach sleeping, they probably won’t feel enough support under their hips.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lbs

The DreamCloud mattress will most likely work for lightweight people who sleep in pretty much any position. They should feel supported when they are back sleeping while the foam layers on top provide a bit of comfort. Side sleeping, they shouldn’t press so far into the mattress, so they should feel no real pressure on their shoulders and hips. Stomach sleeping, they shouldn’t feel their hips or center mass dipping into the mattress, and they should feel well supported across their entire body.

How the DreamCloud Mattress is Constructed

Now, let’s pop the hood on the DreamCloud and see just what materials are found in this mattress and how they affect its overall performance.

DreamCloud mattress construction breakdown

DreamCloud Cover

On top, the DreamCloud features a smooth, comfy cashmere-blend cover. It’s breathable, soft to the touch, and even tufted and quilted with some foam to give the top of the mattress a bit of that pillow-top look and feel.

DreamCloud Comfort Layers

Technically, the foam found in the cover would be the first comfort layer. Beneath that, there is a layer of soft memory foam that is there to provide some pressure relief and comfort for sleepers. It’s infused with gel to prevent the material from trapping too much heat (a common occurrence with memory foam). Below that, there is a firmer foam transition layer that is there to keep sleepers from sinking too far into the mattress.

DreamCloud Support Layer

Individually-wrapped coils act as the DreamCloud’s main support system; they are quite supportive and allow for so much airflow through the main body of the mattress. The individually-wrapped coils then rest on a thin layer of high-density foam.

DreamCloud Mattress Height

The DreamCloud mattress is 14″ tall, which is pretty average for a hybrid.

How Does the DreamCloud Mattress Perform?

We ran the DreamCloud through a gauntlet of tests regarding cooling, motion transfer, and durability – let’s see how the mattress fared!

Does the DreamCloud Mattress Sleep Hot or Cold?

Sleeping on the DreamCloud, we do feel quite cool because the mattress features a few temperature-regulating materials. The cashmere-blend cover is breathable and allows air to pass through the top of the mattress and the memory foam layer is infused with gel (good with heat dissipation).

The individually-wrapped coils in the support layer also allow for air to pass through the mattress so that it isn’t one big block of heat. Overall, the DreamCloud should be a good option for hot sleepers who wish to stay cool throughout the night. Cooling sheets can also help to stay cool at night.

Motion Transfer

Couples who are looking for a mattress would be wise to keep motion transfer in mind; a mattress that cuts down on motion transfer between the two partners should ensure each sleeper won’t disturb the other when they move around.

DreamCloud Mattress - Motion Transfer

Testing out the DreamCloud, the mattress does not isolate this motion particularly well. When we placed a glass of water in the center of the mattress and pushed it into the surrounding area, we did see some disturbance in the water. Our reviewer, Marten, also laid on one side of the mattress while someone moved around on the other side. He did feel that motion transfer to his side of the mattress. It might not be the best mattress for couples.

Edge Support

While the DreamCloud features coils in its support layer, we did not see the best edge support with this mattress. Sitting near the edge of the DreamCloud, it did collapse quite a bit, and, lying down near the edge, we did feel like we might roll off the mattress.

DreamCloud Mattress - Edge Support

Durability

A mattress’s durability will depend greatly on how often sleepers use it and how heavy or light they are. That being said, just looking at the materials and construction of this hybrid mattress, it won’t sag, and we see it lasting for between 6 and 8 years.

Off-gassing

When opening up a bed in a box mattress, it is normal to notice a slight chemical smell; in the biz, we call this mattress off-gassing, and we did notice this with the DreamCloud mattress. However, this smell did go away after we let the DreamCloud mattress air out for around 48 hours.

Noise

Moving around on the DreamCloud mattress, we did not notice any real squeaking or creaking; the individually-wrapped coils would be the only material in the mattress we would expect to make noise, but we are hearing none.

Sex

Couples who are looking for a good mattress for sex usually want to pick something bouncy and responsive; this will make it easier for them to move around and reposition on the mattress. The DreamCloud mattress fits the bill for sure, and sexual partners should find it to be a great match.

DreamCloud vs DreamCloud Premier

This battle is a little close to home, but let’s talk about how the two DreamCloud mattresses compare to one another. To start, the DreamCloud Premier is designed to be a more luxurious mattress, while the DreamCloud is the more valuable option – in terms of price, the DreamCloud costs about $400 less than the DreamCloud Premier.

DreamCloud Premier Mattress Review

The price is reflected in what materials are found in each DreamCloud mattress. Simply put, the DreamCloud Premier mattress has thicker, softer materials right on top, which gives the mattress more of a plush look and feel. The DreamCloud mattress does not have such a thick comfort layer and is firmer, with more of a traditional innerspring feel.

The DreamCloud is going to be a better option for fans of firmer mattresses and those who want to save money on their mattress. The DreamCloud Premier is going to work better for those who want something plusher and also something a bit more luxurious and substantial.

Make sure to read our DreamCloud vs DreamCloud Premier Mattress comparison for more info.

DreamCloud vs Saatva Mattress

The DreamCloud and Saatva mattress are somewhat similar in that they feature coils in their design and some plusher layers right on top. On closer inspection, they are slightly different, however, namely in their support layers – the DreamCloud features one set of individually-wrapped coils while the Saatva features two sets of coils (microcoils and support coils).

Saatva Mattress Construction

At the same time, we found the Saatva to be softer than the DreamCloud, and the plush pillow top on the Saatva is providing better pressure relief than the top layers of the DreamCloud. This also gives the mattresses a different feel; the DreamCloud has more of a traditional innerspring feel, while the Saatva has more of a pillow top feel.

Of the two mattresses, the DreamCloud should be the better choice for stomach sleepers and, given that it costs a few hundred dollars less than the Saatva, it is a good way to save money. The Saatva, on the other hand, is going to work better for side sleepers and those who prefer a bit softer mattress.
