The EcoSleep mattress is a triple-layer hybrid bed that offers two firmness options in one. (One side is described by the brand as medium-firm; the other is firm.) As its name implies, this is an eco-friendly mattress. It’s made with organic cotton, sustainably sourced Joma wool, and all-natural latex. These factors influence whether a bed will be well-suited to your preferred sleep position(s) and other sleep preferences. So let’s jump-start the in-depth portion of this review by taking a look at the EcoSleep’s firmness and feel!
How Firm Is The EcoSleep?
Because the EcoSleep is flippable, it boasts two different firmness. We ranked the firm side at a 9 out of 10, and we ranked the medium-firm side around an 8/10. The industry standard for average firmness is 6.5/10, so this suggests both sides of the mattress are significantly firmer than average. This makes sense when you consider that the bed uses coils and latex to create a highly supportive sleep surface.
Note that firmness is a bit subjective, so it’s possible that you might rank the EcoSleep’s two sides as a hair firmer or softer. But it’s safe to say that everyone will find this bed to be on the firm side.
Sleeping On The EcoSleep
Now, let’s talk about how it feels to sleep on the EcoSleep mattress.
Firm Side
While lying on his back on the firm side, our average-weight reviewer found that the mattress felt too firm. It certainly offers spinal support, but it didn’t provide any pressure relief.
Not surprisingly, the firm side also proved too firm for side sleeping. Our reviewer felt a lot of pressure around the shoulder and hip, which are common hot spots for side sleepers.
In our experience, the firm side is a great match for stomach sleeping. It’s highly supportive and did a nice job of keeping the hips in line with the spine.
Medium-firm Side
We felt great while back sleeping on this side of the mattress. Our hips sank in for just a touch of pressure relief, while our spine stayed well supported.
As with the firm side, the medium-firm side felt too firm for side sleeping. It just didn’t offer enough pressure relief to cushion the shoulder and hip.
Our average-weight reviewer felt well supported while stomach sleeping on the medium-firm side. Heavier-weight stomach sleepers might prefer the extra support on the firm side, however.
What Does The EcoSleep Feel Like?
Both sides of the EcoSleep have a bouncy, responsive feel. The combination of responsive latex and coils makes it very easy to move around on this mattress, and it’s easy to change positions during the night.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130lbs – 230lbs
Average-weight back sleepers should enjoy plenty of spinal support and a touch of pressure relief on the medium-firm side of the EcoSleep, while the firm side might be too firm for this group. Average-weight side sleepers will almost certainly find that both sides of the mattress are too firm for this position and will want to look for a dedicated mattress for side sleepers. Average-weight stomach sleepers should enjoy plenty of spinal support on either side of the EcoSleep.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs
Heavyweight back sleepers should feel well supported (and enjoy a touch of pressure relief) on the medium-firm side of the EcoSleep; the firm side might be a touch too firm. Both sides of this mattress are almost certainly too firm for heavyweight side sleepers. Heavyweight stomach sleepers, on the other hand, should enjoy either side of this mattress. Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs
In general, the EcoSleep is probably too firm for most lightweight sleepers, who are unlikely to obtain anywhere near enough pressure relief while back or side sleeping. That said, it’s possible that lightweight stomach sleepers who enjoy a firm feel could feel at home on the medium-firm side of this mattress.

Cover
Both the medium-firm and firm sides of this mattress feature an organic cotton cover that is quilted with Joma wool for added softness and breathability. The brand says the wool is sustainably sourced.
Comfort Layers
The primary comfort layer on the medium-firm side of the EcoSleep is made from 1.5” of plush natural latex, which is very bouncy, responsive, and naturally cooling. Below that, there’s a 1.5” latex support layer, which is supportive and also very bouncy.
The main comfort layer on the firm side is also 1.5” of plush natural latex. Underneath that, there’s a 1.5” layer of firmer latex.
Support Layer
The support layer for both sides of the mattress is made from 6” of Ascension coils, which are highly supportive, breathable, and durable.

Sleeping Hot Or Cold
The EcoSleep is a very breathable mattress that should help you sleep cool. The coils in the center of the mattress promote airflow, while the natural latex on either side of the mattress is quite breathable and shouldn’t trap heat. Finally, the wool under the cover is also a naturally breathable material that should keep the top of the mattress nice and airy.
Motion Transfer
Latex and coils are both bouncy and responsive materials, so it probably won’t come as a shock that the EcoSleep doesn’t perform the best when it comes to motion transfer. Movements from a restless partner or pet could easily transfer across the surface of the mattress, so keep this in mind if you’re looking for a mattress for couples.
Edge Support
The EcoSleep is very firm and supportive overall, and this extends the whole way out to its edges. We felt very secure while sitting and lying down near the edges of this mattress. Partners should be able to utilize the full surface of this mattress with no issues.
Durability
The EcoSleep contains highly durable materials, including natural latex and steel coils. This should be a long-lasting mattress that won’t sag for years to come. It’s a great option if you’re looking for a long-term investment.
Off-Gassing
You shouldn’t notice any real off-gassing with the EcoSleep mattress.
Noise
At the time of our review, we didn’t observe any notable noise from the EcoSleep. That said, because it contains coils, it’s possible they could start to squeak a bit over time.
Sex
