When reviewing mattresses, we always pay close attention to its firmness level and feel. Let’s see what the Nolah Nurture is all about!
How Firm is the Nolah Nurture?
Here at Mattress Clarity, we rank firmness on scale from 1-10. The industry standard for medium-firm mattresses is 6.5/10. Because the Nolah Nurture has two sides, it also has two different firmness levels.
The soft side feels like a 5/10 on our firmness scale. If this were an adult mattress, it would feel entirely too soft. However, smaller people won’t feel too much of the coils underneath, so it will still feel supportive and comfy. We recommend the soft side for young children.
The firm side feels like a 6.5/10, or medium-firm. Older children will compress the firm Talalay Latex comfort layer more than younger children, so they will feel plenty of pressure point relief on this side of the bed.
Sleeping On The Nolah Nurture
Even though the soft side isn’t supportive enough for adults, it works exceptionally well for small children. Those who weigh less than 100lbs should feel a great balance of comfort and support, especially when back sleeping. This soft side might not be supportive enough for stomach sleepers, but it does provide plenty of pressure relief for young side sleepers.
Most adults recognize the other side as medium-firm, but as you may know, firmness levels change depending on your body weight. Children who are over the age of 10 will most likely prefer the firm side because it creates better lumbar support. We expect it to feel comfortable in all three sleeping positions.
What Does the Nolah Nurture Feel Like?
Thanks to its supportive coil system and Talalay latex foam layer, the Nolah Nurture has a bouncy and responsive feel. It’s super easy to move around on top of this mattress.
Young Children
Children under the age of 10 will likely prefer sleeping on the soft side of the mattress. Smaller people won’t compress the latex foam layers too much, so they’ll still get plenty of lumbar support.
Larger children, or those who are over the age of 10, will likely prefer to sleep on the firm side of the mattress. People in this category will feel nice cushioning and body contouring along their shoulders and hips.
Teenagers
Many teenagers may find the Nolah Nurture isn’t supportive enough, however, smaller teenagers might find the firm side feels quite supportive and comfy. We recommend families purchase this mattress for their younger children so they can use it for many years to come. By the time the children reach the age of 15, they may need to switch over to the Nolah Natural 11″ or the Nolah Signature 12″.

Cover
Made of organic cotton, the cover feels soft and breathable. This gives the mattress a plush and luxurious feel.
Comfort Layers
Beneath the cover sits a layer of premium wool. In addition to acting as a natural fire barrier, this material helps regulate body temperature.
Then, you’ll find a layer of soft Talalay latex. This premium material creates even more pressure relief than Dunlop latex does, and it’s incredibly durable.
Support Layer
Beneath the soft comfort layers sits Nolah’s Patented HDMax™️ Tri-Zone™️ Support Coil System. These 6” coils create optimal support where young ones need it most.
Then, there’s a layer of firm Talalay latex foam. This acts as a support layer for the soft side of the mattress and a comfort layer for the firm side of the mattress.
For even more airflow and breathability, Nolah added another layer of wool. A layer of high-quality organic cotton surrounds the bottom of the mattress, so no matter which side you rest on, you’ll feel its luxurious comfort.

Sleeping Hot or Cold
Nolah mattresses have many built-in cooling elements, and the Nolah Nurture is no exception. The strong coils create ample airflow, and the natural latex feels especially breathable. Overall, we do not expect sleepers to feel hot on this mattress.
Motion Transfer
Because it has a bouncy coil system, this mattress doesn’t isolate motion well. This often creates problems for couples, because people can easily wake up when their partner shifts sleeping positions. However, most children don’t share beds, so we don’t think this element is a deal-breaker.
Edge Support
Most adults will find this mattress doesn’t have the best edge support, however, lightweight sleepers should feel secure when resting near the side of the bed. If you have a young one that’s prone to falling off the bed, we don’t expect this mattress to make that problem worse.

When you unbox a bed-in-a-box mattress, it’s common to notice a slight chemical smell at first. However, that wasn’t the case with the Nolah Nurture. Because this bed contains hypoallergenic and eco-friendly materials, it doesn’t emit a strong odor. You will need to wait about 48 hours for it to fully expand, however.
Noise
We didn’t notice any significant squeaking sounds when testing this mattress, but it’s possible the bed could create sound over time.
