Casper Wave Hybrid Snow Mattress Video Review

Get up close and personal with the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow mattress with our in-depth video review! Our reviewer, Marten, will reveal each layer of the bed’s construction and share what it felt like to sleep in every position on this mattress.

Casper Wave Hybrid Snow Mattress Firmness And Feel

A bed’s firmness and feel will tell you a lot about whether it’s well suited to your sleep position(s) and other sleep preferences. So let’s take a look at the firmness and feel of the Wave Hybrid Snow!

How Firm Is The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow?

We ranked the Wave Hybrid Snow mattress around 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale. The industry standard for average firmness is also 6.5/10, so this suggests the bed is right around medium-firm. It balances softer memory foam with more supportive latex foam and coils.

Note that firmness is slightly subjective. Depending on your body weight and personal preferences, you might rank this bed a touch firmer or softer than our assessment.

Sleeping On The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow (Sleeping Positions)

We found the Wave Hybrid Snow to be a very good fit for back sleeping. The two layers of zoning provided great lumbar support.

Casper Wave Hybrid Snow - Back Sleeping

We felt just a bit of pressure on the shoulder and hip while side sleeping on this mattress. It wasn’t much pressure, but it’s worth noting this if you spend all night on your side.

The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow didn’t feel quite firm enough for stomach sleeping. Our hips sank a bit too far into the mattress, which tugged the spine out of alignment.

What Does The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow Feel Like?

The Wave Hybrid Snow mattress has a responsive hybrid feel with a bit of bounce. The coils and more responsive foams make it easy to move around on this bed.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130lbs – 230lbs

Average-weight back sleepers should enjoy a balance of comfort and support (especially great lumbar support) on this mattress. Average-weight side sleepers should enjoy decent pressure relief on the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow thanks in part to the memory foam layer. Average-weight stomach sleepers who weigh close to 130 pounds should get enough support on this bed, while folks who weigh more than that will probably require more support.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs

Heavyweight back and side sleepers who weigh less than 300 pounds should enjoy the blend of pressure relief and support on this bed. Heavyweight stomach sleepers and people who weigh more than 300 pounds will need a more supportive mattress for heavy people.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs

Across the board, lightweight sleepers should enjoy this mattress. It provides comfort and support while back sleeping, adequate pressure relief while side sleeping, and even enough support for lightweight stomach sleepers.

Casper Wave Hybrid Snow Mattress Construction

Now that you know what it feels like to sleep on top of the Wave Hybrid Snow, let’s take a look beneath its cover! We’ll detail each layer of this bed’s construction and reveal how different materials influence feel and performance.

Cover

The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow features a QuickCool™ cover that’s infused with Phase Change Material. This material helps draw heat away from the body, and it’s also breathable.

Comfort Layers

The top layer in the Wave Hybrid Snow’s comfort layers is made from AirScape foam that features more cooling Phase Change Material on top and is ventilated for additional airflow.

Casper Wave Hybrid Snow - Construction

Underneath the AirScape foam, there’s a layer of natural latex foam that adds more bounce to the mattress. It includes six thin, thermal HeatDelete™ Bands that help direct body heat away from the body during sleep.

Next up is a layer of memory foam that’s zoned to be firmer toward the center (for extra spinal support) and softer near the head and foot (for added pressure relief). Like the AirScape foam, this layer is also perforated to allow for airflow.

Finally, there’s a layer of polyfoam, called Zoned Support Max, which enhances the mattress’s zoning. It includes gel pods that rest under a sleeper’s waist and lower back to add lumbar support and promote spinal alignment. This is very advanced zoning that doesn’t exist in many mattresses, and it should go a long way toward combating back pain. Make sure to check out our best mattresses for back pain for more like this.

Support Layer

The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow’s primary support layer is made from encased coils, which are very supportive and lend the mattress its bounce. A durable base of polyurethane foam provides a sturdy structure for the coils to rest on.

Mattress Height

The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow is 13” tall.

Casper Wave Hybrid Snow Mattress Performance

We put the Wave Hybrid Snow through a barrage of tests to assess its performance with regard to motion transfer, temperature regulation, edge support, and more. Let’s see how it did!

Sleeping Hot Or Cold

Casper expressly designed the Wave Hybrid Snow for sleeping cool, and the bed delivers. It boasts advanced cooling design features including Phase Change Material, cooling bands, cooling gel, and airflow promoting coils. All told, this mattress does a fantastic job of neutralizing heat and should be one of the best cooling mattresses out there.

Motion Transfer

The Wave Hybrid Snow performed just okay on our motion transfer tests. Because it has bouncy latex in the top layers and coils in the support layer, this bed is very responsive. That means it doesn’t do a great job of absorbing motion and minimizing disturbances across the surface of the bed. It’s not bad either, (we’ve seen much worse!) but it’s not the absolute best mattress for couples who don’t want to disturb each other during the night.

Edge Support

We found the edge support on the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow to be mixed. We felt secure while lying down near the edges of this mattress, but we felt less secure while sitting on the edge.

Casper Wave Hybrid Snow - Edge Support

Durability

The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow is a very durable mattress that’s made with long-lasting materials. This should be a good long-term investment.

Off-Gassing

We did observe some initial off-gassing from the Wave Hybrid Snow. This should dissipate within a few days.

Noise

Even though the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow has coils, we didn’t observe any notable noise during our review. It’s possible the coils could start to squeak a bit as time goes on.

Sex

Because the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow is responsive, it should be a good mattress for sexual partners. It’s easy to move around and change positions on this bed.

How Does The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow Compare To Other Mattresses?

Since the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow is a new mattress on the block, you might be wondering how it compares to other mattresses. Here’s a close look at how it stacks up against the original Casper mattress as well as the similar Purple Hybrid Premier.

Casper Wave Hybrid Snow Vs Casper

Because the Casper Original and the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow are made by the same brand, they include some of the same materials (such as AirScape foam). But they still differ pretty dramatically in terms of construction. The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow is one of Casper’s hybrid mattresses, and it features more layers and much more complex construction that includes latex, advanced zoning, and advanced cooling. The original Casper comes as either a hybrid or a foam mattress; both models feature a simpler construction.

Casper Mattress - Construction And Foam Layers

These beds differ a bit when it comes to firmness. We ranked the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow around 6.5/10, or right around average firmness. We found the Casper Original to be a bit firmer at around 7/10.

These two mattresses also have different feels. The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow has a responsive hybrid feel, while the original (all-foam) Casper has a balanced foam mattress feel.

Finally, these beds differ significantly when it comes to price. The Wave Hybrid Snow is more of a luxury mattress that incorporates many cooling features as well as latex, and it costs much more than the original Casper mattress. The Wave Hybrid Snow starts at $3395.00 for a Queen, while the all-foam Casper Original starts at $1495.00 for the same size.

Who Should Get The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow?

  • People who want a more advanced mattress
  • Hot sleepers who are looking for an extra-cool mattress
  • Larger people and others who need more support
  • Side sleepers

Who Should Get The Casper?

  • Light- and medium-weight combination sleepers
  • People who are looking to save money

Casper Wave Hybrid Snow Vs Purple Hybrid Premier

While the Wave Hybrid Snow and Purple Hybrid Premier are both hybrid mattresses, they have very different constructions, particularly in their comfort layers. The Wave Hybrid Snow features foam layers, including memory foam and latex foam, while the Purple Hybrid Premier utilizes the brand’s proprietary Purple Grid. Another big difference? The Casper mattress features more advanced cooling features.

Purple Hybrid Premier - Construction

Because of their different constructions, these beds feel very different. The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow has a responsive hybrid feel, while the Purple Hybrid Premier has a unique, gel feel that’s simultaneously squishy and firm.

When it comes to firmness, we found that the Purple Hybrid Premier feels a bit softer than the Wave Hybrid Snow. We ranked the Casper right around average firmness at 6.5/10, and we ranked the Purple a bit softer than average at 6/10.

In terms of price, the Purple Hybrid Premier costs less than the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow (although neither one of these beds comes cheap!). The Wave Hybrid Snow starts at $3395.00 for a Queen, while the same size Purple starts at $2699.00.

Who Should Get The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow?

  • People who sleep extremely hot and need an extremely cooling mattress
  • People who want more of a foam feel

Who Should Get The Purple Hybrid Premier

  • People who want to save a bit of money
  • Heavyweight people who need more support
