Its Zoned Support Max system offers a balance of comfort and support we have not found with many other mattresses.

While the Casper Wave Hybrid is on the pricier end, it is a very advanced mattress that should be a great match for a variety of people.

Casper Wave Hybrid Mattress Video Review

To see how the Casper Wave Hybrid really looks in action, make sure to watch our in-depth video review. Our reviewer, Marten, will discuss the Casper Wave Hybrid’s construction, his experience with it, and who the mattress might be a good fit for.

Casper Wave Hybrid Mattress Firmness And Feel

Firmness and feel are two things to keep in mind when shopping for a new mattress. Let’s talk about the Casper Wave Hybrid’s firmness and feel and what it is like to sleep on the mattress.

How Firm Is The Casper Wave Hybrid?

The Casper Wave Hybrid felt like a 6.5/10, about medium in terms of firmness – the top foam layers are quite soft, but the layers get progressively firmer as we go deeper into the mattress. Also, with its two layers of Zoned Support, the Casper Wave Hybrid will feel firmer when people are back sleeping and stomach sleeping and softer when they are side sleeping.

In addition, the Wave Hybrid might feel firmer or softer depending on the sleeper’s body weight. If they are lighter, they might think the Casper Wave Hybrid is softer and, if they are heavier, they might think that it is firmer.

Sleeping On The Casper Wave Hybrid

Back sleeping on the Casper Wave Hybrid, the mattress is providing us with an excellent balance of comfort and support. Our hips sink into the mattress and we good support from the coils and other firmer foam layers. The two layers of zoning also offer extra support under our lumbar area.

Casper Wave Hybrid - Back Sleeping

Side sleeping, the Casper Wave Hybrid is relieving the majority of pressure on our shoulders and hips. The top layers are very soft and the zoning makes the lower layers softer under the shoulder area. As we will discuss below, this experience may differ depending on one’s size and weight.

Stomach sleeping on the Casper Wave Hybrid, the mattress is too soft for us. Even with the zoning, we can feel our hips and center mass bowing into the mattress, and we are getting out of proper neutral alignment.

What Does The Casper Wave Hybrid Feel Like?

The Casper Wave Hybrid features a balanced foam feel on top that features a good bit of bounce. Lying on the Casper Wave Hybrid, we do sink in a bit, but we have no trouble moving around or changing positions. The coils in the support layer also add some more bounce to the mattress.

Casper Wave Hybrid - Firmness And Feel

Again, with the zoning, the mattress does feel different depending on our sleeping position. We can definitely feel the zoning when we lie down on our backs, side, and stomach.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230 lbs

Average weight back sleepers should find the balance of comfort and support they are seeking in a mattress. Their hips will sink as the mattress supports them under their lumbar area and across their body.

Average weight sleepers who are not over 200 lbs should feel excellent pressure relief on their shoulders and hips. However, if they are closer to 230 lbs, they could press further into the mattress and feel a significant amount of pressure in those areas.

Stomach sleeping, most average weight people will not get enough support on the Casper Wave Hybrid. They will most likely want to find a firmer mattress that offers more support under the hips. They should see our best mattresses for stomach sleepers for some more supportive options.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lbs

Back sleeping, heavier people who are closer to 230 lbs should get enough comfort and support on the Casper Wave Hybrid. However, if they are closer to 300 lbs or over, they might need a mattress made specifically for larger people.

Side sleeping, the majority of heavier people are going to feel too much pressure on their shoulders and hips. They will press very far into the mattress and could feel more of the support layers near the bottom of the Casper Wave Hybrid.

Heavier stomach sleepers will definitely need a mattress that is firmer than the Casper Wave Hybrid. They will want something extra firm that is also made to handle heavier weights.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lbs

Lying on the Casper Wave Hybrid, lightweight back sleepers and side sleepers should get the requisite amount of comfort and support. They will experience a balance of comfort and support when they are back sleeping and excellent pressure relief when they are side sleeping. Stomach sleeping, lighter people could even find the Casper Wave Hybrid to supportive enough. Make sure to check out our best mattresses for lightweight sleepers for more like this.

Casper Wave Hybrid Mattress Construction

Now let’s open up the Casper Wave Hybrid and see what it is made of. We will look at each layer one by one and discuss the materials and how they affect the performance and feel of the Casper Wave Hybrid.

Cover

The Casper Wave Hybrid features a knit cover that is stretchy, soft, and breathable. It should not affect the overall feel of the Casper Wave Hybrid, but it will allow for some good airflow in the top of the mattress.

Comfort Layers

The top layer of the Casper Wave Hybrid is a responsive polyfoam – it is soft but bounces back into place very quickly. It also features a thin layer of gel on top to help with cooling and it also boasts AirScape technology to keep it more breathable.

Casper Wave Hybrid - Construction

Below that, there is a layer of natural latex foam that is durable, bouncy, and also features AirScape technology. It adds even more responsiveness to the top of the mattress and should make it easier for sleepers to move around. It is not a full latex mattress, but it does exhibit some of that bounce.

Support Layers

The Casper Wave Hybrid contains multiple support layers with some very interesting special features. First, there is a layer of Zoned Support memory foam that is firmer toward the center and softer toward the head and foot of the mattress. This is meant to help keep the spine in neutral alignment, no matter what position someone is sleeping in.

Below that, there is a layer of polyfoam with Zoned Support Max. This layer is convoluted for airflow and features multiple zones that offer varying comfort and support across the mattress. Toward the center of this layer, there are gel pods that will help provide more nuanced lumbar support.

Finally, there is a layer of support coils surrounded by a foam encasement. This provides the main support in the Casper Wave Hybrid.

To make sure your mattress has enough support, consider one of Casper’s bed frames. We also recommend the Casper Rise Pro Adjustable Base.

Mattress Height

The Casper Wave Hybrid is 13″ tall and is a pretty substantial mattress overall.

Casper Wave Hybrid Mattress Performance

We ran the Casper Wave Hybrid through a number of tests to see how it performed with regard to the cooling, motion transfer, and other features – let’s see how it did!

Sleeping Hot Or Cold

In our experience, the Casper Wave Hybrid did not sleep hot whatsoever and was quite the cooling mattress. The coils in the support layer promote a good deal of airflow through the mattress, and the top foam layers are ventilated for airflow as well. The breathable cover, cooling gel, and latex layer should also keep the Casper Wave Hybrid from trapping a significant amount of heat.

If you want to sleep even cooler, check out the Casper Cooling Collection which includes the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow and Casper Nova Hybrid Snow.

Motion Transfer

If someone wants the best mattress for couples, they should usually be looking for something with memory foam. This material can absorb movement made when partners move around at night.

Casper Wave Hybrid - Motion Transfer

While the Casper Wave Hybrid does feature memory foam, it is still a more bouncy, responsive mattress that allows for a good amount of motion transfer. Sleeping partners could disturb one another when they move around and reposition themselves on the Casper Wave Hybrid.

Edge Support

A mattress with good edge support will also allow couples to sleep toward the edge of their mattress and get the most space possible. Sitting near the edge of the Casper Wave Hybrid, the mattress does collapse a fair bit, but we don’t feel like we are going to pitch forward. Lying down near the edge of the Casper Wave Hybrid, we don’t feel like we are going to roll off the mattress, and we do feel quite secure.

Casper Wave Hybrid - Edge Support

Durability

The Casper Wave Hybrid is a deluxe mattress that features a number of durable materials. The high-density foams, latex, and coils should ensure it will last for at least seven to 10 years.

Off-gassing

The Casper Wave Hybrid is a bed-in-a-box mattress and it does come in a cardboard box. Unboxing the Casper Wave Hybrid, we did experience some of that initial chemical smell one finds with a foam or hybrid mattress. However, we left the mattress in a well-ventilated room and, after 48 hours, the smell was gone.

Noise

Even though the Casper Wave Hybrid features coils, we did not hear any sounds when we move around and changed positions. It is a very quiet mattress but given that it has coils, it could make more noise many years down the line.

Sex

Those who need a mattress for sex usually want to find something responsive that makes it easy to move around. The Casper Wave Hybrid is definitely bouncy and responsive and shouldn’t make sexual partners feel trapped in the mattress.

How Does The Casper Compare To Other Mattresses?

Anyone looking to do some comparison shopping should read on as we compare the Casper Wave Hybrid to other relevant mattresses. Make sure to also check out our mattress comparison page for full comparisons like Casper Wave Hybrid vs Purple Hybrid Premier.

Casper Wave Hybrid Vs. Casper Original

The Casper Wave Hybrid is a much more deluxe mattress than the Casper Original, but it does come with a significantly higher price tag (about $1400 more than the Casper Original). This makes sense as it features more advanced zoning than the Casper and also features supportive coils and latex as well. In our experience, the Casper Wave Hybrid is also softer than the Casper Original mattress.

Casper Mattress - Construction And Foam Layers

Because of these differences, the mattresses are a better fit for different types of sleepers. The Casper Wave Hybrid should be a better match for larger people and those who require more support. In addition, it should be better for hot sleepers and those who are looking for a more advanced, durable mattress. The Casper Original, on the other hand, should be better for light- and medium-weight combination sleepers and those who want to save money on their mattress purchase.

Casper Wave Hybrid Vs Tuft And Needle Hybrid

These are both hybrid mattresses with a similar firmness and responsive foam on top, but they are still different in a number of ways. The Casper Wave Hybrid features latex and a zoned construction, but the Tuft and Needle Hybrid does not. The Tuft and Needle Hybrid features microcoils and support coils, while the Casper Wave Hybrid only contains support coils. Speaking of price, the Tuft and Needle costs about $1000 less than the Wave Hybrid.

The Casper Wave Hybrid should be the better option for combination sleepers because of its zoned construction. Larger people who have more support needs will also appreciate the extra support the zoning provides. Finally, it is a more substantial mattress that contains more durable materials, making it a better long-term investment.

The Tuft and Needle is going to be a better choice for back sleepers who don’t require quite as much support. They will be able to save some money by choosing this mattress.

Casper Wave Hybrid Vs. Layla Hybrid

While they are both hybrid mattresses, the Casper Wave Hybrid and Layla Hybrid are different in a number of ways. The Casper Wave Hybrid features a zoned construction and more of a balanced foam feel on top. The Layla Hybrid features a flippable design and more of a classic memory foam feel on top.

Layla Hybrid Construction And Layers

The Casper Wave Hybrid is going to be firmer than the soft side of the Layla Hybrid and softer than the firm side of the Layla Hybrid. In addition, the Casper Wave Hybrid costs about $1000 more than the Layla Hybrid mattress.

The Casper Wave Hybrid should be a better option for back sleepers because of its zoning and medium firmness. Also, it should be the more durable option because of its inclusion of latex and other high-density foams. Fans of a balanced foam feel that allows them to move around more easily should also choose the Casper Wave Hybrid.

With its flippable design, the Layla Hybrid should be a good choice for side sleepers and stomach sleepers as well. Fans of the slow-moving memory foam feel and those who want to spend less on their purchase should also choose the Layla Hybrid.
